There have been many robbery and snatch thief cases reported in several Kepong areas including Taman Megah for the past few years. Some residents were even terrified whenever they hear noises of motorcycles nearby, in fear that something bad would happen to them.
There was a case in 2010 whereby the snatch thieves stripped off a 50 year old woman’s clothes because they were furious that she did not carry any cash or anything valuable on her. Neighborhoods like Taman Megah and Taman Kepong have become some of the main focus of snatch thieves because most residents there are mainly elderly folks.
The residents have been upset with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall over the removal of security boom gates in the area in 2008. Residents were furious over this action as crimes rates were on the high in Kepong at that time. But the security has improved since the mobile police units have been set up at the Kepong Baru Township which helped to reduce the crime rate.
