Straits Quay is a Mediterranean-style sea-front integrated development which is claimed by many to be one of the prominent landmark of Penang. Sited in Tanjung Tokong, this vibrant development neighbors Quayside and The Brezza.
This masterpiece hosts a marina, a retail mall and a serviced apartment. The marina is fully equipped with berths, piers, warehouses and other facilities. Besides that, E&O has introduced water limousine as a unique attraction as well as to connect Straits Quay, the Eastern & Oriental Hotel and Lone Pine Hotel – which are all owned by the company.
Its 12.4 acres of festival retail centre comprises a 3-storey building with a net lettable area of 270,000 sf and hosts about 100 tenants. It has a centre boulevard with north and south corridor.
The retail mall at Straits Quay is opened since end of November 2010. There are vast array of international and renowned shops and restaurants have set their sail within the retail podium including Charlie Brown Café, Dome, Aseana Café, Bella Marino, French deli Agua, Dome, Four Season Bakery, Finnegan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, Starbucks, Subway, Secret Recipe, Royal Selangor and Versus Versace as well as the company owns Delicious.
Under the same roof, E&O has put an effort to encourage arts by the setting up of Penang’s first performing art centre. This RM7.5 million investment is spearheaded by E&O together with the renowned The Actors Studio. The 22,000 sf centre features 2 theaters – a proscenium theater that sits 304 pax and an experimental theater that seats 150 pax. It also hosts a number of studios for classes and practices.
The residential component of Straits Quay, named The Suites At Waterside @ Straits Quay comprises of only 160 serviced apartments. The built-ups offered ranging from 853 sf up to 1,800 sf, and a unit comes with 1 or 2 bedrooms. The suite is extended with spacious lanai. Its kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and fittings. It boasts high ceiling, tall windows, leisure facilities (including the usual swimming pool, sauna, gymnasium and Jacuzzi) and pay-on-demand 5-star services.
Besides that, there is also a condominium named the Quayside Seafront Resort Condominiums, which is the first condominium in the region with a 4.5 acre of private water park. It is situated on the north side of Straits Quay, right besides it.
Straits Quay is very welcomed by the locals and the tourists as it offers plenty of strolling entertainment from jesters, clowns, stilt-walkers and imps and fairies. And there are shows held for the children as well as festivals and parties to be held here.
For example, the last New Year Eve Celebration (2011) at Straits Quay showcased heart-pumping action with light shows, street performers, the High Society band, magical fire dance and LED Poi Maori traditional dance. The night was ended with a bang with great spin from the renowned DJ Joey G and fireworks as it hit mid night of New Year Eve. There are several more events in plan from time to time.
The retail mall at Straits Quay is more like a leisure and entertainment centre that hosts fine and established F&B outlets with several branded boutiques instead of our typical shopping mall that hosts almost everything under one roof.
Straits Quay is part of the first phase that consists of 240 acres out of the 1,000 acres of master planned waterfront community in Seri Tanjung Pinang. Besides Straits Quay, other developments have already in shape including seafront villas, courtyard homes and semi-detached homes. The second phase of the development spans over 740 acres and will offer a mix of luxury residences and world-class leisure and commercial facilities.
